Dr Michael Wong graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2003. He undertook Physician and General Cardiology training at Austin Health before pursuing further sub-specialisation in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Austin, then subsequently at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

He was a Doctoral Fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology under the mentorship of Professor Jonathan Kalman and Dr Joseph Morton at Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne. Michael has now returned as a consultant.

Michael is interested in all aspects of Cardiology with a particular interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Device Implantation. His PhD research thesis has reported novel findings on predictors, mechanisms and contemporary epicardial ablation techniques for lethal cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in various disease substrates including non-ischaemic/ischaemic cardiomyopathy and chronic kidney disease.

Michael has won numerous local, national and international awards for his novel work. These include the prestigious Ralph Reader prize (World Congress of Cardiology/Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand 2014), the Young Investigator Award (Heart Rhythm Society, USA 2014), Cleveland Young Investigator Award (Melbourne Health Research Week 2014) and the Young Investigator Award (Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology/Renal Society of Australasia 2014) for his clinical research. He is the recipient of the Keith Goldsbury Award Postgraduate Scholarship from the National Heart Foundation of Australia.
